Nonprofit Excellence Program

The purpose of the Nonprofit Excellence Program helps to fulfill the mission of the foundation by increasing the capacity of nonprofits in the region.

The NMF board of directors recently completed a planning process that resulted in a shift in emphasis from our accustomed role as a reliable financial resource to that of an innovator in building progressive communities.

The process  led to the adoption of our new focus on Quality of Place. This concept incorporates four classes of asset areas which have been shown to be desired by talented workers in selecting or remaining in a particular place. The areas are: Natural Assets, Structural Assets, Social Assets and Economic Assets.

The board believes that Northwest Minnesota has the capacity to improve places and services in these assets areas that will help to make the region a better place in which to live and work. The design and potential impact of the Nonprofit Excellence Program is an integral part of implementing the foundation's strategic plan.
