January 13, 2006 - A fresh coat of paint can make a remarkable difference in the appearance of community structures, neighborhood facilities and parks. While adding to a sense of civic pride, this agreeable task is again being made very affordable. For the ninth consecutive year, the Northwest Minnesota Foundation (NMF) announces the availability of free paint for community fix-up and restoration projects.
January 30, 2006 - March is nationally recognized as Women's History Month and it will be kicked off again this year with an Opening Celebration at Bemidji State University (BSU). The event will take place on Saturday, March 4th at 11:00 a.m. along with the 2006 Northwest Minnesota Women's Hall of Fame induction ceremony, honoring Dr. Kathleen Annette of Bemidji and Susan Mills of Crookston.
February 7, 2006 - Greenbush, Minnesota is the kind of place where good people do great things, helping to make their community a desirable place to put down roots, find a job, raise a family, or start a business. This was demonstrated by the newest addition to the Northwest Minnesota Foundation family of community funds, the Greenbush Area Community Fund (GACF).
February 10, 2006 - When a community experiences exciting new growth, jobs are added on an almost daily basis, manufacturing and industry expands, retail outlets spring up, and demands for housing present a challenge. What also arise are questions about annexation, demands on infrastructure, zoning considerations and many others.
March 2006 - Applications are now being accepted for the Northwest Minnesota Foundation's Leadership Development Workshop to be held April 17-21, 2006 at the Hoot Owl Resort, Waubun.
March 2006 - Two workshops for local businesses in Roseau County were recently sponsored by Northwest Minnesota Foundation, Northwest WENet, and the Greenbush, Roseau and Warroad Chambers. The workshops focused on current trends in our County as well as ideas to effectively compete with "Big Box" stores and retail trade centers.
March 17. 2006 - Families with young children in Marshall County will now have access to books in the most convenient way: delivered free right to their homes. The program is being made available through the Marshall County Early Childhood Initiative, a project supported by the Northwest Minnesota Foundation.
March 22, 2006 - The Warroad Area Community Fund has recently added the Warroad Heritage Center to its family of funds. The Warroad Heritage Center Fund was established with the Northwest Minnesota Foundation to provide financial support for programs, projects and activities associated with the mission of the Warroad Heritage Center.
March 22, 2006 - The Warroad Care Center recently established a component fund with the Northwest Minnesota Foundation (NMF). The Warroad Care Center Fund, which will consist of a permanently endowed and a project fund, will become part of the Warroad Area Community Fund's growing family of funds, all benefiting the greater community.
March 24, 2006 - The Northwest Minnesota Women's Fund is calling for funding proposals for programs and services that benefit women and girls within the twelve county Northwest Minnesota Foundation service area. Organizations with 501(c)(3) status as determined by the Internal Revenue Service are eligible to apply.
March 27, 2006 - Since 1998, the Northwest Minnesota Women's Fund has honored 21 women who have demonstrated leadership for improving the quality of their own life or those around them. In our increasingly complex society, the Women's Fund seeks to applaud the efforts of the women who have made northwest Minnesota a better place to live, work, raise families and have fun.

September 2006 - A long-standing goal of the Northwest Minnesota Women's Fund has been to help women learn about the political process, become involved and elected to office. Recent grants awarded to the Political Science program at Bemidji State University (BSU) are moving that goal forward.
September 2006 - The Roseau Area Hospital and Homes "Go Red" campaign recently received a $1,000 grant from the Northwest Minnesota Women's Fund to raise awareness about heart disease, the number one killer of women in America.

November 2006 - Bemidji State University students from many different disciplines served as youth advocates mentoring younger students in the Students Teaching Attitudes of Respect (STAR) Team Program, sponsored by the Northwest Minnesota Foundation (NMF). They worked with 75 6th and 7th grade students, advisors, and trainers attending the STAR Teams training at Concordia Language Villages near Bemidji. The BSU students were trained in the program to catch the "teachable moment." They actively and easily engaged the STAR Teams students in discussions regarding the concepts being presented.
December 2006 - Robert J. Hager of Greenbush, Minnesota was recently elected to the Northwest Minnesota Foundation (NMF) board of directors.
December 01, 2006 - Six Greater Minnesota pilot sites will participate in a three-year, $2.5 million initiative to help communities build strong local environments that support the healthy social and emotional development of young children and their families. The Minnesota Thrive Initiative will engage a diverse cross-section of community members to create networks of local services and resources that help to ensure young children are ready for kindergarten and school success.
