November 1, 2007 - Nominations will be accepted until December 1, 2007 for women to be considered for induction into the Northwest Minnesota Women's Hall of Fame. Nominees, who may be living or deceased, must demonstrate a connection to the area of northwest Minnesota that includes the counties of Beltrami, Cass, Clearwater, Hubbard, Kittson, Koochiching, Lake of the Woods, Mahnomen, Marshall, Norman, Pennington, Polk, Red Lake and Roseau.

October 22, 2007The Northwest Minnesota Foundation (NMF) board of directors has named Nancy Vyskocil as its next president. Vyskocil will become the third president since NMF was established in 1986 to help vitalize northwest Minnesota communities."

October 3, 2007 The Northwest Minnesota Foundation (NMF) is delivering a comprehensive, integrated training program to build the capacity of the region’s nonprofit organizations and agencies. The component that focuses on Individual Excellence features six courses designed and delivered by the Center for Nonprofit Management, University of St. Thomas.

September 17, 2007 Award-winning QuickBooks financial management software gives you fast and easy tools to help you manage your business more effectively. The QuickBooks Pro training course is being offered in partnership with the Northwest Minnesota Foundation (NMF), the Small Business Development Center , and the Hubbard County Regional Economic Development Commission.


September 17, 2007 - -The Northwest Minnesota Foundation (NMF) is delivering a comprehensive, integrated training program to build the capacity of the region's nonprofit organizations and agencies. The component that focuses on Individual Excellence features six courses designed and delivered by the Center for Nonprofit Management, University of St. Thomas.

July 2007 - The Northwest Minnesota Foundation announced that it has awarded 11 grants totaling $180,900 benefiting communities: for children and families, community planning, natural resource protection and preservation, growth management and housing.

June 27, 2007 - The Northwest Minnesota Women's Fund (Women's Fund) recently announced that the fund has disbursed $7,277 from endowment earnings in the 2007 grant round.

June 2007 - With a $1,000 grant from the Northwest Minnesota Women's Fund, a select group of Century Middle School girls participated in a weekly support group. Jo Hartwig, Children's Advocate from the Headwaters Intervention Center, guided the safe, informal gathering that allowed the girls a place to talk about a variety of topics affecting them.

June 2007 - John Ostrem, president of the Northwest Minnesota Foundation since 2000, has announced that he is retiring, effective January 1, 2008.

June 14, 2007 - Nonprofit executive directors, agency directors and board members now have the opportunity to participate in an innovative and beneficial Organizational Effectiveness Workshop that will help you discover and implement strategies for an organizational development plan.

June 2007 - The Minnesota Thrive Initiative has formed an Action Team in the Bemidji-Blackduck-Kelliher areas to help build a strong local environment that supports the healthy social and emotional development of young children and their families. This project, directed by the Northwest Minnesota Foundation as part of a statewide effort with Bush Foundation funding, has engaged a diverse cross-section of community stakeholders to begin creating networks of local services and resources that help to ensure all young children receive the nurturing care they need to support their mental health.

June 2007 - When Minnesotans concerned about early childhood education and health issues get together, big things begin to happen. The Minnesota Early Childhood Initiative is encouraging action in the area of Early Childhood mental health; many are now taking note and joining in with Greater Minnesota coalitions.

2007 - In honor of their son, Matthew, Maurice and Carolyn Spangler have created the Matt Spangler Hockey Fund to honor his memory, which will assist in financing youth hockey in Park Rapids. As a part of Park Rapids Area Community Fund, it was established through the Northwest Minnesota Foundation.

February 21, 2007 - Eric Bergeson, a lifelong resident of Fertile, Minnesota was recently elected as Chairman of the Northwest Minnesota Foundation's (NMF) Board of Directors. Â Bergeson joined the board in May of 2005.

2007 - The Northwest Minnesota Foundation (NMF) recently announced awards of free paint for community fix-up and restoration projects. Through a collaborative effort with the Valspar Corporation and the "Picture-It-Painted" program, paint and other coating materials necessary for rehabilitation activities will be given to local towns and organizations.

2007 - Park Rapids, Minnesota is the kind of place where good people do great things, helping to make their community a desirable place to put down roots, find a job, raise a family, or start a business. This was demonstrated by the newest addition to the Northwest Minnesota Foundation family of community funds, the Park Rapids Area Community Fund (PRACF).

2007 - A scholarship fund was recently established with a gift of $100,000 to honor the life of Dorrance H. Johnston as a part of the Warroad Area Community Fund. It is the 14th scholarship or education-related fund supporting students in the Warroad area.

2007 - At a recent meeting, the Warroad Area Community Fund's local advisors recommended awarding nearly $85,000 in grants from various component and scholarship funds, benefiting a great many people and organizations in the Warroad area.

January 29, 2007 - March is nationally recognized as Women's History Month and it will be kicked off again this year with an Opening Celebration at Bemidji State University (BSU). The event will take place on Saturday, March 3rd at 11:00 a.m. along with the 2007 Northwest Minnesota Women's Hall of Fame induction ceremony, honoring Marilyn Heltzer of Bemidji and Neen Lillquist of Laporte.
