The Advisory Committee of the Women's Fund also hosted a reception for Joyce Magner at the Newfolden Community Center, which was held on October 11. Nearly 60 guests of the recipient, Women's Fund supporters, Founders' Society members, Visionary Partners, and community leaders attended the gathering.
Vicki Svedarsky and Norma Hanson, representing the advisory committee, hosted the event. Svedarsky spoke to the group about the role of the Women's Fund in the region and the Community Builder recognition program.
Several of Magner's friends and associates added details about Magner's extraordinary accomplishments and contributions to the community, including Joan Sethre, Marinell Waterworth, Sue Skadsem and Ginnie Kiviaho, who read a letter written by Dixie Holen on behalf of the Private Industry Council.
Svedarsky then introduced advisory committee member Gloria Kaste, Together they presented Magner with an original, engraved commemorative pendant on behalf of the Women's Fund.
Magner is from the Thief Lake and Holt area of northwestern Minnesota. She and her family have remained in and around Newfolden throughout their lives. Magner began her career as a teller at the Marshall County State Bank in Holt. In August 2005, she completed her 50th year in the banking industry, having attained the level of executive vice-president. Magner was honored in June 2005 as a Pioneer Banker by the Minnesota Bankers Association, an achievement that is typically reached by males in the industry.
She has also been very active and served many years as a volunteer for numerous community organizations, including the Northwest Private Industry Council, Newfolden Community Homes, and Hospice of the Red River Valley, among others.
