Clearbrook
Olga Anna Hulteen Peterson is a retired elementary teacher and principal, community leader and visionary, who remained active into her 90s. She is well known as a lifelong Clearwater County resident.
Olga graduated from Bemidji State University with a teaching certificate in 1932. She spent most of her 36 years in the teaching profession in Clearwater County, where she served as Elementary Principal in Clearbrook, retiring in 1979.
She has served on the board of the Senior Citizens of Clearbrook-Leonard, was a 4-H leader and advisor and active in a homemakers group. Olga also served on the advisory Board for Community Education for the Clearbrook School District and on the Advisory Board for the Good Samaritan Center. She had always been active in her church as a Sunday School teacher and volunteer.
In 1984, Olga was named First Lady of the Year, sponsored by Gamma Upsilon Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. She has been a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority for 30 years. She received the Woman of Achievement Award in 1987 and represented their group at the state convention and was recognized as Outstanding Senior Citizen of Clearwater County. She was recognized twice by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources for her 45 years as the Holst Township fire warden.
In 2002, Olga assisted in planning and organizing the Northern Exposure for Lifelong Learning, which offers a variety of programs, presented by local experts. Olga helped lead the organization with her vision and her skills, making it possible to provide these programs to rural northern Minnesota.
